How on this Earth did we get here? This is a question I find myself desperately seeking the answer to several times a day.
How did we get to the stage where the mass of humanity cannot or will not see the true horror of our situation? How did we get to the stage where most people can’t even imagine an alternative or have given up on any other way, citing simply ‘human nature’ as a fact? How did we get to the stage where true consciousness ceased to even be a potential for most?

We, humanity, were gifted with something incredible – the potential for active consciousness. That is, the ability to know and to engage with the immeasurable, the unquantifiable. It is that which supersedes mechanical physiological functioning; it is the possibility of objective understanding and true life.
We viciously take from our Mother Earth to feed these base motor functions, the bottom rung of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs but we appear to have gotten no higher up the ladder for millennia. An analogy I use to describe what human beings do to meet these needs is as follows:
A son repeatedly steals money from his mother to feed his drug habit. She watches in horror as he spirals ever downwards, further and further from salvation. She feels guilty, wondering how she went so wrong raising him. Eventually enough is enough and she tells him that she knows what he is doing and asks him to stop. He immediately flies into a rage and beats his mother until she is a bloody mess, her nose broken and several ribs cracked. She begs him to think of his future, to think of her, but he only feels rage towards her, blaming her for his predicament. He leaves her bleeding on the floor and finds other ways to get money for his next fix. Eventually, he loses the sympathy of everyone around him and loses his sanity to boot. A few years later he is found dead in the squalor of his own vomit and feces. He has been living in abject poverty, seeking only that original high that he could never again attain.
Not only do we take the incredible gifts (otherwise known as ‘natural resources’) that our Mother Earth has freely given us, but we take them in the most gross and vile manner possible. We intervene in the natural order, arrogantly thinking that we know better than an ancient living system (that we cannot even adequately explain) and screw everything up.
Observe if you will a natural ecosystem not fouled by human activity. What do you see? A breathtakingly complex and symbiotic system that is beyond normal human comprehension, and surely beyond the explanation of ‘accidental evolution’. Everything has its place; everything gets what it needs whilst feeding everything else around it. There is ample time for rest, for play and for learning. Anthropologists have repeatedly observed that ‘rudimentary’ human tribes share these same characteristics and live as part of the system, rather than believing that they exist outside of or ‘above’ it. They spend an amazingly small proportion of their time on meeting their survival needs, and they are met cooperatively.
What happens when you add modern human beings to this scene? Death, destruction, disenchantment and prison bars to encase the potential of consciousness. For a small but disproportionately dangerous minority this is a consciously chosen way of existing and one that appears to suit them just fine. For most, however, it is learned behaviour which leads to further suffering. That suffering is blamed on anything and everything served up as a scapegoat by that same small minority. A non-exhaustive list of recent examples includes; Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Muammar Gaddafi, Iran, immigrants and Palestinians. The gods and high priests of science have led us to believe, as they themselves believe, that existing is simply survival of the fittest (or most ruthless), in a dog eat dog world where nothing else whatsoever matters.
In this reality, there is no room for co-operation, no room for empathy and there is certainly no time to stop and observe what our Mother Earth is so desperately trying to tell us. The Powers that Be make damn sure of that. Do you think that stress is an unfortunate by-product of modern living? Perhaps you should consider that it is an awfully useful tool for maintaining control. Think for a moment of Ivan Pavlov’s experiments in Transmarginal Inhibition. Pavlov found that by conditioning his lab dogs to chronic and/ or acute levels of mental and physical stress (essentially pain) the psychological processes and resulting behaviour of the dogs could be re-moulded.
As our hair singes and our faces blister because of our closeness to the gates of hell, I can only shake my head in despair. We live on a planet that was very likely a paradise in ancient times and could be again if it were not for the virus-like behaviour of modern humans. Most are willingly and unquestioningly led by a crazed, psychopathic minority that are hero-worshipped and rewarded in a society made in its image. One that is destroying us all.
Why can we not ‘live and let live’? Why must our interactions with each other and everything else be a fight to the death both metaphorically and increasingly, in the absolute sense? What are we so afraid of, that we cannot allow for and love natural and functional differences? More importantly, why can’t most people observe and respect the basic human rights of people they perceive to be different from them?
I recently spoke to my work colleagues about the situation in Gaza, which has moved me to tears on a number of occasions. I spoke of children with limbs blown off, terrible burns and shrapnel injuries. The room became silent for a moment, then I was told I couldn’t say those things, was informed that "it isn’t politically correct" and the conversation quickly shifted to another banal item of trivia. Really? It isn’t politically correct to point out the objective fact of terrible human suffering? In the end, you reap what you sow.
The Palestinian people have been sacrificed as the cannon fodder for the machine of ‘progress’. These same people busily discussing handbags, television soaps and soft porn novels will be next. And when their fate meets them, they’ll be shocked; their bubble of importance, encouraged by the universal propaganda and mind control efforts of the Powers that Be will be cruelly popped. For the record, I don’t enjoy saying that. It is another realisation that sinks deep into my bones and leaves me weary with hopelessness. And we’ve been here before, so many times that I don’t care to think of the implications.

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out – because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out – because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out – because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out – because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me – and there was no one left to speak out for me.
Pastor Martin Niemoller (1946?)

We label total annihilation as ‘progress’. As far as I can gather, this ‘progress’ amounts to the destruction of everything real that makes life worth living. It is the crushing of human potential and the raping of the gifts of our beautiful planet. Progress is measured by dead eyes, the windows to a dead soul with an iSomething in hand to placate the never ending addictions of modern man. These days, we only ask for momentary dulling of the crushing boredom and anxiety of life.
We collectively worship corrupted science and its illegitimate offspring – mechanical technology – for increasing the human life span over the past century and yet, rarely is it acknowledged that the average human being today lives under the burden of ever increasing physical pain and anxiety disorders as a result of stress. More than half of humanity lives in terrible conditions of deprivation. And finally, despite all propaganda to the contrary, most people will spend their last years on earth barely having their basic needs met by strangers, whilst losing their minds and their dignity. This is what we have come to venerate; existence rather than LIFE. We are left with broken communities, broken families, broken hearts and broken minds.
That is what we rape and pillage this magnificent planet for; a grim existence.
